![]() I've mentioned this first because it's just plain obvious. "I was a creature before I could stand" = Easily interpreted: When you were a baby, you were self-centered, self-indulgent, and didn't necessarily 'think', you just did what you felt like, no matter what it was. In my opinion, anyone who has just reached 'adulthood' from adolescence (your teenage years), can come to realize what that meant, and it's really something: I should mention first that evolution is -very- similar, metaphorically, to a human being growing up. It CAN be interpreted that way, but it has too many loose ends. LOL SlipKnoT's songs are almost always very 'personal' or based on feelings alone. ![]() Most people have interpreted it as being about evolution xD. This seems to be what people are confused about: Song MeaningPeople need to stop thinking that Corey's only writing very personal songs about himself, and concentrate on the way they've written the lyrics which (even though it reflects events in his own life), anyone can relate to: I've got no right to win, I'm just caught up all the battles Pay attention to your twisted little indiscretions I wear you like a stitch, yet I'm the one who's hurt ![]() I'm ripped across the ditch and settled in the dirt and I'm I've got no time to lose, I'm just caught up in all the cattle ![]() I wear you like a stain, yet I'm the one who's obsceneĬatch me up on all your sordid little insurrections I'm smeared across the page and doused in gasoline Sealed in tight, bizarre but right at home Most Tagged 20 buck spin album review album reviews amorphis beer behemoth black metal Canto century media century media records craft beer deafheaven death metal devin townsend doom doom metal enslaved ghost gilead media hardcore heavy metal independent independent release in flames Initial Descent interviews iron maiden lamb of god mastodon megadeth metal metal blade records metallica napalm records new releases Nine Circles ov.Stapled shut, inside an outside world and I'm What do you think? Post your choices in the comments section and let us know! Hence, Goat Torment takes this week’s prize. Secondly, think of all of the extreme metal bands that feature animals in their names–you’ve got Cattle Decapitation, Pig Destroyer, Wormrot, etc.–have you ever come across one that STOPPED SHORT of killing the being in question? These guys don’t want to horribly disfigure a goat! They just want to, you know…torment it! Which, to me, is hilarious. Why, you might ask? For starters, it brought to mind an image of a metalhead chasing a panicked goat around with a scythe or a trident, which made me laugh uncontrollably at my desk. (*cough* RIPOFF *cough*) Is it weird, though, that the first thing I noticed was all of the “I” names? Immolation, Incantation, Inquisition, Impaled, AND Internal Rot? Good lord.Īt the end of the day, though, I had to give the nod for Best Band Name to Goat Torment. Death Toll 80k just screams brutality, and you can’t help but laugh at a band name like Uncle Acid and the Deadbeats. There’s also a grindcore band from the Czech Republic whose name I can’t even read or pronounce because IT IS IN CYRILLIC. Now watch this band suck or something.Īs always, there are loads of great band names to choose from on this year’s bill. Although I guess it’s a bad ass name as well, for a deathfest and all. But honestly, I just like the image Stapled Shut generates with me more than the rest. Impaled is a close second, because of Vlad. Either way, this brings my mind immediately back to the horror movies I watched as a young child, and that’s awesome (maybe disturbing? nah). No matter how I try to over think that concept, two primary images come to mind: staples serving as surgical sutures on some gaping wound, or a mouth stapled shut. Honestly, I’m just going with the name that puts the best image in my head.įor me, that would be Stapled Shut. I am NOT going with Creative Waste or Shitstorm even though, ya know, Baltimore and stuff (although I thought about it). Now, I’m pretty sure everyone will have their own formula for coming up with the ‘best’ band name this year, and I will spare you the details of mine (which really doesn’t exist). Let’s assume I know nothing about who’s in them or what they play. I’m looking at them simply by their name. Personally, I’ve got to eliminate any knowledge I have of any of the bands attending this year. This goes without saying, but this question can go in more directions than I’m willing to comprehend. (Need an easier way to read these logos? Click here.) WHICH BAND AT MARYLAND DEATHFEST 2014 HAS THE BEST NAME? (Who ever says we’re right?) This week, in keeping with our established theme of Maryland DeathFest–which kicks off tomorrow(!!!)–we pose the following question: It’s Wednesday, and that means it’s time for another edition of Stage Dive–your chance to weigh in on a range of different topics in metal and tell us why we’re wrong.
